Hammonds produces furniture to BS14749. Our product meets that requirment and its at the customers discretion as to how they use it.


Please see below a list of weight/load limits for our storage solutions:


260mm pull out hanging rail = Maximum 8KG of weight

550mm pull out hanging rail = Maximum 10KG of weight

Counter balance hanging rail = Maximum 10KG of weight

There is no simple cover all statement for how much weight a shelf can take. It depends how wide/deep the shelf is, how a load is spread over it, and with bookcase units, how high the shelf is. Technically the higher the shelf within a bookcase unit, the less weight it will bear.


Hammonds reccomends a maximum weight of 10kg per shelf for our Bookcase units.

The below chart determines the shelf capacity loading according to the shelf depth (The chart assumes the shelf is fixed to the wall with adequate hardware fittings):

Concealed bracket (used in 38mm Linje and Painted Finish shelving) = Maximum 15kg of weight (including the weight of the shelf)
